This experimental montage explores the receding distinctions between emerging cults and the governing regime in the contemporary society from which I come. It traces the characteristics of contemporary cults and their association with a turbulent society, suggesting a juxtaposition that hints at ideological indoctrination and nascent democracy. The discussion shifts from the complexities of interdependent sociocultural contexts to the emergence of authoritarianism and totalitarianism, revealing the intensified surveillance state under decades of repression.
Synopsis:
Modern cults often exploit the vulnerability of society to recruit adherents and consolidate their power structures by stimulating notions of fairness, justice, and personal liberation. Similarly, under the guise of sustaining law and order, the governing regime purges dissidents. Those trapped in the extremes of these power struggles are the unfortunate victims.
The narrative arc of the film follows the four stages of cult proselytism: Outlaw, Supervision, Conversion, and Assimilation. Each stage delves deeper into the mechanisms of indoctrination and control, portraying the progressive entrapment and transformation of individuals within the cult. Through these stages, the film explores the psychological and social dynamics at play, highlighting the gradual erosion of personal autonomy and the eventual complete assimilation into the cult’s ideology.
